Why Extrawheel?

What are the advantages of an Extrawheel?

The Voyager Solo is the lightest single-wheel trailer in the world. We put great emphasis on the importance of weight in cycling because lighter is almost always easier and more enjoyable. It is particularly important if you are going touring as you will already be packing your bike up quite heavily, so adding unnecessary weight by using a heavy trailer will make your rides significantly more dificult than they need to be.

Because the Voyager is a single-wheel trailer that sits very closely to your rear wheel it tracks behind your bicycle better than a large two-wheel trailer would. It is because of this the Voyager comes into a league of its own off-road. Cornering is easier and riders don't find themselves hitting obstacles at the side of tracks as they would with a wider trailer. Lumps and bumps are also handled better by the larger wheels as there is a wider surface area making contact with the ground which distributes the impact more evenly than a small wheel.

Spare wheel

Providing they're the same size, the wheel in the trailer acts as a spare wheel for your bike should the disastrous happen and you buckle a wheel. A badly buckled wheel will run significantly better in the Voyager trailer than it will on your bike.

Longevity of your bicycle

Packing the load onto an external trailer means that you are placing less strain on your bicycle's frame, meaning your bike and wheels will last longer than they would were you to carry a heavier load on the bike itself.

Road bike use

Ever wanted to go for a short tour on your road or racing bike but not been able to because you can't carry any luggage? The Voyager makes carrying panniers on a road bike possible. The attachment to the bike is via a specially designed quick-release skewer, so the trailer will fit to road bikes. This means you could go for a short tour (for example London-Paris) or commute with you road bike. The low weight and ability to fit a lightweight wheel to the trailer also means you will not be unstable on the bike.

Pannier compatibility

A variety of different manufacturer's panniers fit well to the Extrawheel. We recommend Crosso because they are great value, durable, extremely functional and fit perfectly to the Voyager. They come in a wide range of colours too, meaning you can pretty much always match them to your bike.
